This project was a new build working in partnership with Norfolk Property Services.  The aim was to equip nine new laboratories using a specific design, that would allow all pupils to be seated facing towards the teacher at the front of the classroom.  Our solution was to design a wing-shaped workbench at 150 degree which would maximise the work-space, accommodating six pupils per bench.  The services would be run through a service pod from floor level, and up through the unit to accommodate electrical sockets to the fronts, and gas supply to the tops.  The teacher work desk, with an overflow top, will seat additional pupils and also houses a docking station for a mobile fume cupboard.  Around the perimeter are standard storage units as well as Gratnell tray units, offering ample storage space for all of the laboratory equipment.  Pupil bag storage was also accommodated for. The worktops were Velstone – an attractive solid core product which offered the versatility of use and the advantage of seamless joints, along with high scratch and stain resistance.
